Check out these highlights from some of the unique offerings patrons enjoyed systemwide May 2026.
Summer Reading Kickoff (5/26–5/29)
3,158 Children, 2,047 Adults (All branches)
All five branches hosted drop-in celebrations in between Kickoff performers this year. Here are some highlights:
- Sharon Forks Library: “Our kiddos (and caregivers!) had a great time celebrating our Summer Kickoff with activity center games, a scavenger hunt, and more!” - hosted by Stephani Lindsey
- Denmark Library: “Our Kickoff event was awesome! We had so many happy families come see us and complete activities. We had many new faces coming to Denmark for the first time and they exclaimed over how beautiful it was.” - hosted by Amy Szvetecz
Science for Everyone! at Sharon Forks Library (5/28)
365 Children, 216 Adults (Two shows)
“Michael Green a.k.a. Science Machine enthralled the audience with amazing science experiments. There was one patron who was beaming and said this was one of the best shows ever.” - hosted by Stephani Lindsey
Circus Cameron: A One-Man Marvel! at Cumming Library (5/26)
271 Children, 75 Adults (Two shows)
“As always, Cameron did a wonderful job with his routine. He included a segment about how important the library was to him when he was a child. Everyone really enjoyed the show.” - hosted by Julie Boyd
Magician Arthur Atsma at Denmark Library (5/29)
420 Children, 230 Adults (Two shows)
“Arthur Atsma did an absolutely fantastic job! He was very engaging, he knew how to handle the crowd, and his tricks were absolutely wonderful. There were lots of smiles and compliments, and some even stayed to get a quick picture with Arthur!” - hosted by Leslie Young
Michelle’s Magical Poodles at Hampton Park Library (5/27)
237 Children, 136 Adults (Two shows)
“The poodles showed off a variety of tricks including jumping over Michelle, leaping through hoops and rolling a tube. Patrons were very complimentary of the program.” - hosted by Kayla Bolton
Dewey Dino Magic Show at Post Road Library (5/27)
218 Children, 129 Adults (Two shows)
“The Dewey Dino Magic Show was a HIT at our Summer Kickoff event! A large crowd enjoyed a myriad of tricks and illusions from Brian Robert Magic. It was an awesome time and a great way to start the summer!” - hosted by Erin Palmer

“Everyone greatly enjoyed a wonderful event by Dawn from Mahealani's Polynesian Entertainment! Dawn began with a brief history lesson on Hawaii, and the rest of the program was full of traditional music and dancing. Everyone present, from the littlest of littles to the grandparents, got in on the fun!” - hosted by Kayla Bolton
Cats and Crafts at Sharon Forks Library (5/19)
24 Children, 31 Adults
“We had an enjoyable afternoon with furry friends from Forsyth County Pet Adoption and Resource Center. Patrons socialized with the cats in one half of the meeting room, and when they wanted a break, they visited the other half of the room to create cat-themed bookmarks to take home.” - hosted by Tracy MacNaughton
Craft with Me at Post Road Library (5/3)
20 Children, 17 Adults
“I had a variety of options for what today's crafters could color for their suncatchers. Their suncatchers turned out really pretty and patrons enjoyed watching the colors they used get deeper and more vibrant with the application of the oil. Almost every group that attended thanked me for the craft.” - hosted by Melissa Reed
Connect and Create at Denmark Library (5/10)
1 Child, 19 Adults
“Cherry Mo gave a fantastic presentation on floral inspiration and then gave a quick tutorial. Patrons really enjoyed the ability to experiment with different art supplies. Everyone was very appreciative of the program, Cherry's expertise, and the opportunity for a Mother's Day outing.” - hosted by Olivia Kolosna
Learn to Sew: Dinosaur Chicken Nugget Pillows at Cumming Library (5/3)
8 Children, 13 Adults
“We had a decent sized group of sixteen patrons working on sewing their own nugget stuffed toy. All of the patrons did really well and expressed their enthusiasm for the project and how they felt they learned a lot. Everyone left with a finished project!” - hosted by Signe Madson
