One format that is seeing a rapid growth is youth titles in Large Print. These youth titles are primarily in the Juvenile and Teen age ranges. The Library has been increasing its holdings in this area as well.
Studies have shown that large print is beneficial beyond the assistance of a visual impairment. Adolescents who read large print have demonstrated an increase in their reading ability, their confidence in reading, and their enjoyment in reading.
Youth large print titles do not have the same format stickers that adult large print titles do. There has been evidence that reluctant youth readers, who may benefit from reading large print, are hesitant to use these titles if they are marked as large print.
The current youth large print holdings within the Library are as follows:
- Cumming - 44 titles
- Hampton Park - 36 titles
- Post Road -39 titles
- Sharon Forks -63 titles
Our current youth large print collection includes titles such as those in the Harry Potter series and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid titles.
Patrons and staff can find these titles in the OPAC by going to 'Advanced Search.'
ReplyDeleteThe type * in the first search field.
Then go to 'limit by' and select 'more search options'
Then choose:
1. Large print hardcover and Large print softcover under 'detailed material types'
2. Adolescent, Juvenile, and Primary under 'target audiences'
3. Then select 'Set Search Options' and return to the advanced search screen
Hit 'Go' and this will provide a list of all youth LP titles in the collection.
