the World is an educational exhibition that presents the history of
9/11, its origins, and its ongoing implications. It explores the consequences
of terrorism on individual lives and communities at the local, national, and
international levels, and encourages critical thinking about the legacies of
9/11.
What: Happy Birthday,
Waldo!: Look & Find Challenge
Where: Cumming
When: Anytime the library is open in September
Celebrate Waldo's 34th birthday with us at the Cumming Library all month long!
Stop by the children's area of the library and find the
various Waldos in our gigantic puzzle scene. If you're up for an extra
challenge, see if you can find the hidden Waldo within the children's area
bookshelves. Once you find Waldo, go to the ASK US desk and whisper the secret
word to a librarian to receive a small prize!
What: Mind Readers:
Virtual Program - FCPL's Online Book Club for Adults
When: Wednesday, September 1, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Where: GoToMeeting
Mind Readers is a virtual book club for adults that has no assigned titles. To
further FCPL's #WeKnowBooks theme, we invite patrons to attend and share what
they have read recently. At FCPL we know our patrons read a lot, and Mind
Readers provides an opportunity for everyone to discuss what they've been reading
without the pressure of reading a specific book.
What: Citizen
Science: Ant Picnic
Where: Sharon Forks
When: Saturday, September 4 all day
Go Outside, for Science! Explore the world around you and collect data for real
world science projects!
Have ants ever visited your picnic uninvited? Scientists at
the North Carolina State University Rob Dunn Lab want you to make a special
picnic FOR the ants! They are studying what ants like to eat and how that
changes in different locations and throughout the year. Pick up your Ant Picnic
supply kit at the Sharon Forks Library this month and invite the ants to your
next picnic! (while supplies last)
What: Special Needs
Library Hour & Sensory Storytime
Where: Hampton Park
When: Sunday, September 5, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Join us every first Sunday for a special hour of library time designed to
accommodate our patrons with special needs. We will open our doors an hour
early so that you will have a warm and welcoming environment designed just for
you! Browse the library, check out your favorite books, movies, and CDs, and
participate in our special Sensory Storytime, which is specifically designed
for children with special needs.
