Post Road is celebrating Black History Month! We kicked things off on February 4th by putting on our dancing shoes. A dancer and coordinator for Hot Jam gave a presentation about the history of swing dance and lindy hop, which was invented by Black dancers in Harlem. The event included a demonstration of swing dance steps and concluded with the entire crowd dancing together. Aubrey, who coordinated the event, shared this quote from the presenter: "dancing is just fancy walking."
If you missed the event, you can still drop by to check out a special Smithsonian exhibit called "A Place for All People." The exhibit provides an overview of the African American community’s powerful, deep, and lasting contributions to the American story.
Featuring photos of people and artifacts with accompanying text, the twenty panels span the length of the wall dividing the adult and youth sections. The exhibit was provided by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, which is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by an Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans.
