Publisher, Printing, and Google Drive

Just a few tips and things to keep in mind for anyone who is working with Publisher files.

• If you have trouble printing a Publisher file directly, try converting it to a PDF file first and then printing the PDF file instead. IT has a guide available for doing this on the IT shared drive on Google, in the Microsoft Office folder.

• You can upload Publisher files to Google Drive for storage. However, you can't preview or work with Publisher files directly in Google Drive. In order to work with the file, you will need to download it from Google Drive again and then open it in Publisher or LibreOffice Draw.

• You can view and print PDF files directly from Google Drive. So if you have a Publisher file that you will need to print frequently or share with other staff who will need to print it, it is a good idea to save a copy of the file as a PDF and to upload the PDF to Google Drive for easy access. You can upload the original Publisher file to Google Drive as well so that it is easily accessible if anyone needs to make changes to the Publisher file in the future.

We encourage you to look at options other than Publisher, such as LibraryAware or Canva, for your design needs going forward. However, rest assured that your old Publisher files are safe on Google Drive.
