Check out these highlights from some of the unique offerings patrons enjoyed systemwide March 13–19, 2025.

Water Conservation: Enviroscape at Hampton Park Library (3/14)

"We had a small but mighty group for today's Enviroscape program! Nishat from the Forsyth County Water Department began by reading The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks, then demonstrated how water in Forsyth County is treated using a model. Kids and adults alike were very engaged." - hosted by Kayla Bolton

Kids were able to see how clean water reaches their homes.

Craft with Me - A Craft Program for Families and Friends at Post Road Library (3/14)

"We had a wonderful turnout for Craft With Me this month. We planned for 40 and had 39 in attendance. LoraGrace gave detailed directions from start to finish, then we released the patrons to start. For this project, patrons used recycled egg cartons to make flowers. Then, patrons used fabric or scrapbook paper to create a tablecloth and vase. We chose this project, because everyone was given the same directions, but each patron would have a unique creation at the end. This time, we had a mixture of patrons that came: grandmas with grandkids, moms who brought their kids and their neighbor's kids, an adult daughter with her mother, and even a patron who came on her own, who said she enjoyed being surrounded by the kids and families. Everyone left with big smiles on their faces and excited for our next Craft With Me in June." - hosted by Melissa Reed

Math Merriment with Mathnasium of Coal Mountain at Cumming Library (3/15)

"Rusty and Faye from Mathnasium of Coal Mountain came in this morning with a group of teen volunteers. They set up 10 stations with different math activities. As kids arrived, Faye gave them a passport listing all of the stations. Kids rotated through the stations at their own pace. After completing all the stations, they received a prize bag from Mathnasium. Faye was very pleased with the turnout this morning. This was a drop-in event, and for the most part, families came evenly spread out over the course of this 90 minute event, which worked perfectly." - hosted by Julie Boyd

The Marquis de Lafayette: An American Hero at Cumming Library (3/16)

"In celebration of the bicentennial of the Marquis de Lafayette's tour of America in 1825 and the eleven days he traveled through Georgia, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented about the adventurous and exciting life of the Marquis de Lafayette. The program began with speaker Perrie Tucker and a few members of the Chestatee River DAR chapter presenting the Cumming Library with five books about the Marquis to add to our collection. Our first speaker, Emil Decker of the Robert Forsyth Sons of the American Revolution Chapter gave an overview, in 18th century costume, of the Marquis' early life and his experiences during the American Revolution. Mr. Decker was an engaging and humorous speaker who did a good job outlining Lafayette's remarkable life and included some interesting trivia throughout. For the second part of the presentation, Perrie Tucker of the DAR, also in period costume, read through the various towns Lafayette visited during his tour of America from 1824-1825 and told about the events planned to celebrate the bicentennial of his trip." - hosted by Arlene Melton

Family Storytime at Sharon Forks Library (3/17)

"Tonight's Family Storytime was all about Aliens! We started with our hello song and the ABC's of storytime. We learned the ASL sign for ‘planet’ and did a fingerplay called ‘4 Little Aliens.’ We read Dalmartian by Lucy Ruth Cummins and then did another fingerplay called ‘Climb Aboard the Spaceship.’ Then we read Alien Tomato by Kristen Shroeder and There's an Alien in Your Book by Tom Fletcher." - hosted by Claire Laguaite

Golden Hour at Brickmont Senior Living (Outreach) (3/18)

“The inaugural Golden Hour at Brickmont Senior Living this week was truly heartwarming as we spent time talking about beautiful (and sometimes comical) memories we have made on the dance floor over the years. Some recalled dancing at the local YMCA one Saturday a month, and others remembered enjoying lively square dances in their hometowns. Ms. Melanie said her husband had ‘two left feet’ but that she herself loved to dance, and she sang along wholeheartedly with many of the songs we played. A highlight for many of them was seeing my mother's dance formal up close and personal, while Tatyana (a staff member) spontaneously joined us to kick up her heels to ‘The Twist’ by Chubby Checker! Everyone was genuinely grateful, and it was so much fun to hear all the stories. I can't wait to go back and connect with these residents again!” - hosted by Joanie Goforth
