Check out these highlights from some of the unique offerings patrons enjoyed systemwide March 6–12, 2025.
Custom Cookie Design at Hampton Park Library (3/8)

"Today's cookie decorating class seemed to be a hit for everyone! Elizebeth Tong came out and shared her sugar cookie and royal icing recipes on a handout so people can make their own shaped cookies at home. She also brought multiple bags of flooding consistency icing and many more smaller bags of piping consistency icing. She demonstrated flooding, or covering the background of the cookie and how to use a toothpick to make sure any holes were filled in.. Once everyone had practiced that, she demonstrated wet on wet decorating, with different colors of flooding icing and how to swirl them to make hearts or feathering. She made sure to reassure everyone that they would get better with practice." - hosted by Jennifer Forbes

Spring Veggies Gardening Series at Hampton Park Library (3/10)

"Master Gardener Jason did a presentation on soil and how to keep it healthy. He was very knowledgeable and gave lots of good information. There was a mix of people attending. Some had gardens and were looking to expand, while others were interested in getting started. He gave a lot of scientific information about soil. He had several books that we have in our catalog to suggest as a resource. Beverly with the UGA Extension office was also in attendance and let people know that they could take pictures of their diseased plants and email them to the Extension office and they could try to help identify the problem and suggest solutions. Everyone found the program informative and hoped to attend the entire series.” - hosted by Kelly Hollis

Villas at Canterfield Lobbystop with Outreach (3/11)

“Wow! Were we ever greeted with lots of love and enthusiasm today! After we unloaded about 160 books, set up our pop-up library, and brought in all of the bags of books we had checked out ahead of time, we were surrounded by many residents who were very happy to see us. We set up right beside their dining room so they could come by after they had lunch. One sweet lady who is living with macular degeneration was waiting for us to help her with her Libby app. She always wants us to assist her in requesting audio books, which we are more than happy to do. Another one of our regulars told me that she just appreciates us coming so much, and that she looks forward to seeing us every month. We were busy the whole time, interacting and assisting patrons with their selections, with people waiting in line and badgering each other playfully. They are such a fun group!” - hosted by Jeanine Thompson

The Aging Roadmap: Navigating Eldercare at Cumming Library (3/8)

"Michelle Wilson from Wilson legal spoke with attendees about how to financially plan for the future. Her main focus was avoiding Medicaid Estate claims, Medicaid spend down, and probate court. Ms. Wilson spoke about how much the cost of care is as we get older and touched on the different parts of life to focus on when you are over 55. Attendees had lots of good questions, and with the smaller group were able to get personalized responses. Everyone left with information and checked out books as they left." - hosted by Arlene Melton
