Summer Decor at Denmark Library

From the moment a patron enters Denmark Library, staff can immediately tell if it’s their first time in the library for the summer. Why? The oohs and the aahs our eye-catching desk decor elicits from them.

Giant hanging leaves of colorful metallic and sparkling green paper, created both with our handy dandy Brother cutting machine and hand cut by our lovely CSAs, create the illusion of entering into a jungle. Hidden at the very top of the desk sits a giant Pteranodon skeleton, peaking out through the foliage. Finally, just beyond the Ask Us desk, a comet races towards the ground. 

The comet and the foliage set the scene for our theme: Life Before and After the Asteroid. We set out to use the space to tell the story of the dinosaurs, their lives… and their deaths. 

The youth side of our building reflects the life of the dinosaurs. Entering past our leafy green wall of champions, patrons will find giant dinosaurs on each endcap, caution signs with small dinosaurs scattered throughout for our scavenger hunt, and pterodactyls soaring through the skies. 

 

The intergenerational area houses our asteroid, marking the divide between before and after. Patrons entering the adult and teen side will find themselves in a museum with epic dinosaur bones stretching across endcaps, archaeological discoveries unearthed in our hall of continents, and prehistoric skeletal reconstructions floating overhead.

Some might say using dinosaur bones and archeology on the adult side is a pointed statement about adults being fossils, and to that we say: it’s funny. Almost as funny as having our teen bulletin being dinosaurs running away from an active explosion.
