August 2026 Highlights

Check out these highlights from some of the unique offerings patrons enjoyed systemwide August 2026.

Intro to Chinese Dance at Sharon Forks Library (8/10)
46 Adults

“The atmosphere was very fun and inviting and patrons told me they had been looking forward to this program. Even people in the library who did not attend it said it looked like they were having a great time.” - hosted by Andrea DelValle

Teen Advisory Board (TAB) Information Sessions 
452 Children, 58 Adults (7 Sessions Across All 5 Branches)

All five branches held TAB Information Sessions throughout August. Here are some highlights: 

“The teens had many great questions and suggestions, and a few even stayed after to ask about leadership opportunities and future plans with the program.” - hosted by Claire Laguaite

“The teens were awesome and really respectful as I went through everything. This is going to be a great year for TAB at the Denmark Library!” - hosted by Leslie Young

Preschool and Toddler Tumble Time at Denmark Library (8/25)
64 Children, 52 Adults (Two Events)

“Today’s tumble time led by World of Gymnastics was so much fun! I had several parents thank me as they left.” - hosted by Sarah Grace Moses

Forsyth Creates: Library Junk Journal at Cumming Library (8/13)
12 Adults

“Many of the patrons brought their own supplies with them to personalize their journals, which made everyone's so unique! I got to hear amazing stories from each of the attendees about their creative process and why they create.” - hosted by Isa Caraballo

Build-A-Book: Cover Creation at Post Road Library (8/20)
11 Adults

“Patrons got very creative and everyone had a good time as they designed their covers. Many participants are excited to continue to do this craft at home.” - hosted by Erica Myers

Forsyth Creates: Painted Birdhouses at Denmark Library (8/4)
22 Adults

“Each patron pieced a small birdhouse together from a kit, then painted it with acrylics in whatever style they liked. Participants enjoyed the craft!” - hosted by Olivia Kolosna 

Introduction to Arabic at Cumming Library (8/26)
11 Adults

“The group was highly engaged, with many participants sharing personal connections to Arabic-speaking regions and cultures. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive; participants expressed great excitement about the session and requested that we offer this program on a recurring monthly basis.” - hosted by Haguer Kandil

Beginning Mah Jongg: A Three-Week Course at Hampton Park Library (8/13)
37 Adults at Each Weekly Session

“The class was well received and attended, and the interest in Mah Jongg is staying strong.” - hosted by Jennifer Forbes

Great Southeast Pollinator Census (8/22)
52 Children, 59 Adults (3 Branches)

Three branches participated in the UGA Extension Great Southeast Pollinator Census. Here are some highlights:

“This morning was a gorgeous day for our Master Naturalists and Gardeners to come out! Our presenters brought crafts, coloring pages, information sheets, rulers, and seeds to give to participants along with information on how to participate in the census.” - hosted by Dana Anderson

Beginner Crochet: Headbands at Post Road Library (8/26)

“We had several new people who were able to learn the basics and make a great start! I overheard two of the teens who attended say that they did not know the library had cool programs like this!” - hosted by Erica Myers
