In honor of National Native American Heritage Month, we brought Bright Star Touring Theatre to Post Road on Sunday, November 27 to present Cherokee Tales. Through this collection of Cherokee myths, legends and folktales, our patrons were treated to reenactments from the rich oral storytelling culture of the Cherokee People that has been passed down through the generations. There was more than a little educational information sprinkled into the performance that centered around these stories. The audience was especially interested in The Seven Clans and how they came to be.
“The Three Worlds” explained the creation of the three layers of the universe, “The Terrapin and the Rabbit” drew serious parallels to Aesop’s story of “The Tortoise and the Hare” with a twist and the added excitement of audience participation, and “The Legend of the Bear Clan” explained how a family traded a life of starvation and scarcity for an abundant life lived in the wild. The program was packed with information in kid-sized chunks that all ages of our audience could understand.
We’re so glad we were able to bring such a high caliber, educational program to our patrons! We would definitely consider using Bright Star again.
