Check out these highlights from some of the unique offerings patrons enjoyed systemwide April 17–April 23, 2025.
Easter Extravaganza at Sharon Forks Library (4/19)

“We had an EGGcellent Shellebration today! I started off with a short storytime that focused on Easter traditions celebrated around the world. I asked the kids if everyone celebrates Easter in the same way and then talked about a few different ways other countries celebrate (Water fights in Poland, Hot cross buns in the UK, and giant thousand egg omelets in France, and confetti eggs in Mexico). That led into our book Crack Goes the Cascarón: And Eggcellent Not-Just-For-Easter Shellebration! by Sara Andrea Fajardo. After the story, the patrons explored 4 different activities that were inspired by 4 different Easter traditions in different countries (Germany, Guatemala, Bermuda, & Mexico). Each had a sign with the directions and another with a map of the country it was from and a bit of information about how that country celebrates. All of the activities were equally enjoyed and we had a lot of happy families.” - hosted by Stephani Lindsey

Writers’ Night of Celebration at Sharon Forks Library (4/22)

“We had a great Writers' Night of Celebration! With 8 writers and 10 stories, the evening was packed-full of laughs, gasps, and applause. To begin, I started us out with a trivia game. Next, we moved into the submissions! Our audience was a lively one. We had quite a few comedies, so many attendees were in stitches throughout the program. For our interlude, I brought back our classic writing challenge. Attendees received one word and had to finish a paragraph I wrote with a single sentence. Our winner was crowned the Writer of the Night and took home a copy of Save the Cat Writes a Novel. We closed out the night with the rest of our entries. Some of the topics included: fiery soup, what it's like to be a rock, creepy coyotes, and AI, as well as a memoir about a writer's bipolar diagnosis.” - hosted by Brianna Schantz

The Survival Games at Cumming Library (4/19)

“For the Teen Advisory Board’s (TAB's) Survival Games, we were joined by teens ready to compete to be the ultimate victor. The program started out with the reaping, where teens got to select which district they were from. They then began their training, where they launched ping pong balls at targets. They had their tribute parade, where the teens competed to make the best outfits out of plastic table cloths. The final activity of the games was a scavenger hunt where the teens looked for items with different point values in the library. One teen found 18 items on her own which was very impressive. We then had closing ceremonies where the winner was crowned. TAB hosted the program. The teens were all excited to participate and enjoyed socializing with each other.” - hosted by Signe Madson

Fowler Park Bookmobile Stop (4/19)

“Perfect weather brought everyone to the bookmobile at Fowler Park! We answered lots of questions about summer reading, Denmark Library, programs, and how the Library and Outreach works. Our highlight was a dad and son who were learning about bookmobiles serendipitously see us and get to experience the real thing!” - Hosted by Brooke West and Sariah Homan

“For our special Bunny Tales story time we had fun bunny ear headbands that all the kids could make. We started story time with ‘Funny Bunny’ stretch then sang ‘Little Bunny Foo Foo.’ We then read ‘No Bunnies Here’ by Tammi Sauer. This was followed by ‘The Bunny Hop’ dance and ‘That’s My Carrot’ by Il Sung Na. Our last song was ‘One Little Bunny’ and then we read ‘Everybunny Dance!’ by Ellie Sandall. Our puppet show was ‘Fear the Bunny,’ which made everyone laugh when all of the bunnies came flying out at the end. Lots of kids stayed to make their headbands and were seen wearing them throughout the library after story time was over.” - hosted by Jaime Adams
