New Feature in Libby: Content Controls

Overview: 

OverDrive has introduced a new feature within Libby called "Content Controls."

The Content Controls feature will allow users to configure what level of content appears for themselves in Libby. The level of content is based upon the intended audience for each particular item.

This feature is optional for patrons to participate in. 

Please do not market this to patrons as a cure-all to prevent certain types of content from being accessible. This is just another tool to help patrons make informed decisions. 

It is expected that this feature will go live the week of June 23. 

Details:

The Content Controls feature is in the Settings section of Libby. A patron will not see this feature if they have not added a library card to Libby after downloading the app.

OverDrive has created three presets for Content Controls that patrons can apply to their particular library card in Libby. 

1. Libby for Everyone

This does not restrict content that is visible by users based upon the intended audience of the item(s). Patrons have the option to manually restrict content intended for mature audiences from displaying in searches, having the covers of these items display, and/or preventing checkouts of these items.

2. Libby for Kids 

This preset for Content Controls will only show titles with an intended audience of 'juvenile' and 'young adult' when searching and browsing on Libby. Please note that just because an item is considered 'juvenile' it may not be acceptable to all patrons searching for juvenile level content. Patrons also have the option to manually restrict young adult/teen level content from appearing or being checked out.

3. Libby for Grown-ups

This preset would prevent a patron from seeing youth titles in their search results. Patrons can make a manual adjustment to allow young adult/teen level content to be displayed. Please note that a patron wishing to avoid items intended for mature audiences may wish to use the Libby for Everyone preset and manually select the options to prevent this mature audience content from displaying.

Patrons can also create or adjust passkeys for Libby to limit the Content Control settings on their device.
