Hugo the Rock Snake

We had a rocking time at our Rock Snake Painting program on June 10, 2025, at the Hampton Park Library!

The Snake. We had 109 friends come to choose a special rock, use paint pens and acrylic paint to decorate their rocks knowing that we would add them to our special new rock snake who now resides just outside our front doors. Thanks to our talented patrons we received a great number of beautifully painted and creative rocks that we used to form our snake. For example, we have baseball rocks, Captain America’s shield, a bee, a flag, and many more as part of our friendly neighborhood rock snake.

The Naming. At least 211 patrons voted on our snake’s name. We tallied the patrons' votes and concluded that our rock snake is named Hugo the Hampton Park Rock Snake! We are very pleased to welcome Hugo to our front door landscape.

Adding On. We are also inviting anyone to paint a rock at home, bring it to the Hampton Park Library, and add it to our snake! Each painted rock becomes a segment of the rock snake’s body. Find a flat, smooth 2 in. x 2 in. rock, and decorate it with paint or paint markers in a bright pattern, a book-themed design, a cute animal, or an inspirational quote. Bring your decorated rock to the Hampton Park Library, and add it to Hugo. Each new rock adds to the unique personality of the snake, and visitors enjoy seeing how Hugo has grown each time they visit Hampton Park.
