Programming Picks: Spring Break Reading Fun!

Spring Break for Forsyth County Schools is April 4-8! In addition to the many awesome programs we’ll have that week for all ages, we will also have a reading incentive program where kids ages 0-18 can read books, complete activities, earn points, and get prizes! Registration will open April 1 and participants can log reading and activities through April 13. This program will be very similar to Fall Break Reading and Thanksgiving Break Reading. Here’s how it will work:

• Kids will log books and complete activities using Beanstack

• Kids earn 20 points for every 15 minutes or 1 book they read

• Kids earn 10 points for completing one of the following activities (can be completed multiple times):

• Visiting the library

• Going outside

• Tell your own story! (Write an original story, illustrate a scene from your favorite book, or put on a play–basically encouraging kids to engage with books in the way they like best!)

• Share a book with someone special

• Kids who earn 100 points get a prize! Each library will have a special prize box and kids can choose what they’d like. Prizes will vary by branch. 

Beginning at 100 points and up to 500 points, kids can also earn a ticket into the grand prize drawing for every 100 points they earn. Our grand prize for Spring Break Reading is:

• $115 gift card to North Georgia Zoo.

• Our grand prize winner will be drawn on April 14. 

There is a staff version of the program now live in Beanstack. Please take the time to register, play around, and familiarize yourself with the challenge. The staff version will be available through Thursday, March 31 and Spring Break Reading will launch for patrons the morning of April 1. 

Please promote Spring Break Reading Fun at the desk and in your programs. Promotional pieces will be coming soon! This is a great opportunity to get our patrons using Beanstack so they’re familiar with it for summer reading.
