Coming Soon to a Paperback Near You . . .
During a recent meeting with the vendor supplying books for the Denmark Library opening day collection, the vendor indicated that they will use a stamp for the author's last name initial on the top of adult mass market paperbacks. This would be a change from the current practice of handwriting the initial with a magic marker. Materials staff liked this idea and purchased similar stamps to begin using on incoming mass market paperbacks for our current locations.
The stamps will provide a cleaner and more consistent look, as handwriting the initial in marker on top of the book pages can be rather tricky. The pages have a tendency to move as staff members write the letter, and finding the right angle with which to hold the book can be a challenge.
A sample picture of the appearance of the stamps on a book is included below.
I love those stamps! Glad you found a solution that is not only easier for the Materials Dept., but also looks more professional than the handwritten letters. Sounds like a win-win. (Also, great photo!)
