Google Drive Tip: Copying Files

Submitted by Nicholas

We've had several questions about copying files on Google Drive. Below is a guide to the process. This info can also be found in the IT help documents on Google Drive here

1) Open the original file

2) Go to File -> Make a Copy

3) This will open the copy window. Click on the folder option and then use the back arrow to navigate up until you see the Shared Drive or the location where you want to copy to.

4) Select the location and then click on the blue “Select” button

5) Click on the blue “Make a copy” button

6) The copy should be created in the new location and then opened in a new tab in your browser.

Please note, this will only work if you have the correct permissions for both the location you are copying from and the location you are copying to. If you encounter any issues, please submit a ticket or contact IT for assistance. If you are trying to copy a file that is not native to Google (like a PDF, picture, or video file), then the best way to accomplish this is to download the file and then upload the copy that you downloaded to the new location.
