Hampton Park Library Play Day

Two years ago, Hampton Park Library made the decision to begin weekly Library Play Days in August. These programs were designed similarly to Baby Play Days: we open the Meeting Room from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursdays to keep the routine for regular storytime patrons.

A picture book runs on a loop on the projector, and a craft related to the book is set out. There are also toys, games, and other manipulatives available in the Meeting Room. This proved to be very successful, and unlike in previous years, our storytime attendance did not drop the following September. 

This year, we decided to add Library Play Days in December. So far, it's been a great success, with 73 patrons joining us for the first program! Many caregivers have told us how nice it is to have a place for their kids to play during this cold season. It has also been great fun for staff to pick out holiday books and crafts that would not have fit with other programs this month. We will definitely add Library Play Days to the Events calendar next December!
