It’s that time of year again…Winter Reading! This will be the fourth year FCPL has offered a Winter Reading program and we have some exciting prizes, changes, and challenges for Winter Reading Fun 2022.
Winter Reading is open to all ages, from babies through adults. The program begins on Wednesday, December 22 and runs through Sunday, January 9. Patrons can register and track their progress using Beanstack.
This year’s Winter Reading program is different than the other reading incentive programs we’ve offered. Instead of logging reading, patrons will be asked to complete challenge activities, sort of like a virtual Bingo card. Each age group has their own unique set of activities which are a mix of reading/literacy challenges, exploring library resources, and fun activities. Below are some examples of the activities:
- Read a genre you’ve never tried before
- Read a book published in 2021
- Read a graphic novel
- Read a book about a holiday your family doesn’t celebrate
- Explore the eLibrary
- Make a new recipe
- Share your favorite book with us
- Have a family movie night
- Make a reading fort
- Make a work of art
Each patron who earns 100 points gets a prize. Each activity is worth 25 points, so patrons only need to complete four activities to earn their prize. In addition to the 25 point activities, there are two 10 point activities: visit the library and attend a library program. The 25 point activities can only be completed once, but the two 10 point activities can be completed as many times as a patron wants.

Registration opens Wednesday, December 22. Patrons can complete activities and pick up prizes through January 9. Please talk up Winter Reading Fun in your programs and at the desk throughout the school break.
