On the Road with Outreach

We had some spooky fun at Trunk or Treat at the Cumming Fairgrounds last month. This annual event is organized by the Forsyth County Fire Department and includes businesses and nonprofits from around the county. This year, the librarians’ costumes and Outreach van decor were inspired by Winnie the Pooh. 

Katie LeDuc (OR), Britt Poteet (SF), and Alexa Martin (CU) interacted with over 800 patrons who stopped by the van to pick up free books and candy.

We were pleased to offer trick-or-treaters popular titles including I Spy and The Bad Guys. Children (and their parents!) were so grateful and complimentary. We heard “This is amazing!” and “We just love the library!” many times. One kid was more pumped for the books and turned down the candy! Alexa was excited to see two families who regularly come to CU programs at Trunk or Treat. We also had several Bookmobile patrons that stopped by to pick up a book and offer some library love! 

In total, we had 403 children, 31 teens, and 371 adults visit. 

The biggest surprise was seeing more teens than we expected, especially towards the end of the night. Many of them were thrilled to pick out a book and used the flashlights on their phones to read the back cover descriptions.

It was a successful event with lots of love for costumes, candy, and books!
