Unfortunately, we encountered some unforeseen issues during last week’s plumbing inspection that are impacting the opening date. The issue requires a small design change to the wall housing the water fountain and involves the work of several different trades. With the upcoming holidays, we do not foresee this issue being resolved in the next two weeks and cannot schedule subsequent inspections until it is resolved.
The uncertainty of these dates made planning a community event difficult, and after much discussion, we are cancelling the Grand Opening Celebration previously scheduled for January 11, 2025. We will open the new facility when it is ready and hold an official event at a later date. We do not have a new timeline to share yet, but we will keep everyone updated as soon as we know more.
In the meantime, the contractors are working through the punch list of final details to be addressed. IT is hard at work getting the network up and running, cameras installed, and all other behind-the-scenes magic that keeps the branches running smoothly. Bibliotheca started setting up the AMH, and programming the sorting should begin soon. Facilities is here, there, and everywhere, doing all the other things to get us set up for success.
Denmark staff will spend some time onsite completing the shelving of adult nonfiction and then inventorying the collection. They will also continue to assist at the branches where needed. Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm for this project. We cannot wait to share it with you all and our patrons!
