Check out these highlights from some of the unique offerings patrons enjoyed systemwide November 28–December 4.
High Point View (Contributed by Outreach)
“Monday we had our very first visit to a new neighborhood called High Point View which had been requested by a resident who lives there. What a great stop! Although there are units that have yet to be occupied, we already had 25 visitors–mainly families with elementary and preschool children. Everyone was curious about the bookmobile and very interested in our offerings, including the reindeer craft which one young lady took home to work on.” - hosted by Brooke West and Joanie Goforth
Holiday Drop in Crafts (Cumming Library)
"Patrons had a wonderful time making holiday crafts for their friends and family. We had five stations: (1) bookmarks, (2) suncatchers, (3) wooden spool necklaces, (4) shrinky dink key chains, and (5) holiday greeting cards with rubber stamps. Most of the patrons spent near the full 1.5 hours in the room, and parents were extremely complimentary! All of the stations got a lot of use, and we saw caregivers making crafts alongside their children. Signe saw several parents taking pictures of the instructions/packaging who said they were going to order shrinky dink paper for their homes. We noticed two sisters exchanging their gifts after the program." - hosted by Alexa Martin
ATLAS (At the Library After School) Year 3 (Sharon Forks Library)
"The theme this month was ‘World Languages/ Language Learning.’ Activity Table 1 displayed Braille. We had significant adult engagement in this as they were helping their kids understand the Braille system. The children were provided with the alphabets with raised dots through which they got a feel of Braille, and then they followed the instructions to write their name in Braille. Activity Table 2 displayed our digital resources Muzzy and LOTE. Children enjoyed listening to the language of their choice through this activity. We also had a Scavenger Hunt for names of objects in multiple languages." - hosted by Anuradha Murari
Welcome Back, Jingles the Elf! (Post Road Library)
"I made a paper Christmas tree on a rolling board for today's ‘Welcome back, Jingles!' celebration. We passed out bells and everyone shook them and danced while we sang a hearty rendition of ‘Jingle Bells.’ That still didn't bring Jingles out, so we decided to pack up, at which time the volunteens turned the rolling board around to show Jingles tangled up in the lights! We cheered and I showed them the gifts Jingles brought for each of them: a color, cut and paste elf hat, a recipe for fake snow, a bendy elf, and a tiny spiral notebook." - hosted by Erin Palmer
Sharon Forks Writers’ Group (Sharon Forks Library)
“We had a great turnout and a great program tonight with 11 writers. I started the program letting the authors share their latest achievements. One of our writers won a best manuscript contest at the Atlanta Writers Conference and had positive feedback from two publishers. Another writer received an honorable mention in a short story contest. We reviewed three submissions. All of the submissions were very good and the feedback was thoughtful and well appreciated. It was a great program and everyone was supportive of each other.” - hosted by Alicia Cavitt
