Due to lack of circulation and a desperate need for more shelving space of other collections, Leadership Team has made the difficult decision to completely remove the few remaining Teen and Juvenile Books on CD from our collection.
Teen Books on CD currently live only at the Cumming Library. We will remove this collection at the end of January 2026. We currently have 287 Teen Books on CD. There were 305 Teen Books on CD checkouts this calendar year.
We will remove all Juvenile Books on CDs starting at the end of March and finish by the end of April 2026. We will remove one branch's collection at a time, skipping Spring Break week. We have 947 Juvenile Books on CD. There have been 1,400 Juvenile Books on CD checkouts this calendar year.
We will keep Juvenile DVDs where there are, but we will reduce the amount of duplicate copies at each location.
We will reduce and re-locate the Adult Book on CD collection to Cumming Library beginning in February 2026 with a completion date of the end of March 2026. We will reduce Cumming's collection first, then reduce one branch at a time and transfer the remaining Books on CD to Cumming. We currently have about 6,500 Adult Books on CD and will we reduce that amount to about 2,600 items.
We will likely not purchase any additional Books on CD. Please remember that patrons can browse Books on CD on the website and place holds to pick up at any of our locations. We can also refer patrons to Georgia Library Service for the blind and print disabled. Please also continue to promote Libby and Palace Project as alternatives.
This is a sad moment in library history for some, but please remember we do have alternative formats and we must make room somehow for more in-demand materials.
