John Muir’s Journey Through the South at SF

“Chapman described Muir as ‘one of the first hippies’ due to his long hair, love of weeds and nature, and his ‘free-flowing attitude’. He spent some time discussing Muir’s journey through Georgia. The closest Muir got to FoCo was Gainesville, which is where Muir fell in love with the Chattahoochee. From there, Muir went to Athens then on to Savannah. It was in Savannah, when Muir was spending the week camping in Bonaventure Cemetery (and he had malaria at this time) when he wrote down his most critical observations that would spearhead his conservation efforts: ‘Man is not superior to nature - everything has value,’ and ‘man and society need nature’.” – Jessica Doss

Teen Writers’ Club at CU

“The teens were anxious to share their writing this evening with several hands shooting up each time I asked who wanted to read next. One teen took a different approach this time and drew her story out comic style before writing. We heard two heartfelt and beautiful poems. Two teens shared that they are writing a Murder Mystery Game together and another showed me a Black Out Poem that his Russian language teacher assigned as an exercise. I really loved that!” – Holly Raus

Elementary Explorers at HP

“We welcomed local author McCall Hoyle today for our Elementary Explorers. McCall has written two elementary school aged books entitled, Stella and Just Gus. Both books feature a therapy dog who assists a child in a unique way. She started the presentation emphasizing three important things that she wanted the children to remember. 1. We are all different...and that is amazing! 2. We are all born storytellers....everyone has a story to tell! 3. Inspiration for stories can be found everywhere! She had the kids repeat these three amazing truths throughout her presentation.” – LeAnne Craig
Blast Off to Learning with Outreach

“Kandy and I visited Silver City Elementary Friday evening for their Blast Off to Learning event. This is a night for families with rising kindergarteners. We had so much fun! We were very busy; we had 3 new cards and a lot of checkouts. One little boy cried when we left! We could hear the kids laughing during the puppet show. It sounded like they enjoyed it!” – Jeanine Thompson
Celebrating Earth Day at PR
90 children, 120 adults
“At 1:00, a local expert taught patrons about frogs and birds native to Georgia. The audience was surprised to learn that we have a few poison-secreting frogs in Georgia, and laughed as they heard various frog noises. This program facilitated a sense of community as patrons learned, painted, and played together. I even heard a teen say to their friends, ‘That was SO COOL!’ This program was definitely a success.” – Aubrey Smith
