Beginning May 1, 2023, patrons will no longer be able to use the OverDrive app. Most patrons have already switched to the Libby app, but there may be patron questions regarding why they are unable to use the OverDrive app after April 30. The change to Libby was a decision made by OverDrive at the organizational level, deciding that they would no longer support content on the OverDrive app.
Patrons using an iOS or Android device will be able to install the Libby app with little challenge. Patrons using a Nook eReader or Kindle Paperwhite will not be affected by the transition to Libby. However, patrons who are using Kindle Fire tablet will need to complete some additional steps to download the Libby app, as Libby is not officially available within the Kindle app store.
Instructions for downloading Libby to the Kindle Fire can be found here. (Note: patrons using a Kindle Fire will need to update Libby, as available, by using the download website again.) Kindle Fire users have the option to read an eBook in the Libby app or in the Kindle Fire reading app. A guide to 'Reading with Kindle' in Libby is available here (there is also a video version of the instructions on the same page).
The availability of a title as an ePub version for Libby, a Kindle version, or both, is an exclusive decision made by the publishers of the title.
