Although Emergency Preparedness Month is in September, at the Post Road Library, we are making resources available to patrons in April. This is typically when we start seeing more strong storms and those that spawn tornadoes, as we've seen over the last few weeks. Weather forecasts and trends seem to show these storms increasing in the Southeastern "Dixie Alley" from the Great Plains "Tornado Alley". Not to mention that hurricane season will be upon us before summer is over.
Patrons can pick up information on what to include in a family emergency kit including checklists of what materials one should have on hand. There are examples of homemade and purchased emergency kits for the home, auto, and pets. Please do not forget the furry ones, as they may have food and medicine needs of their own to consider. There is a binder that patrons can reference on what to do to prepare for any type of emergency or natural disaster. We've included a QR code that takes them to the Ready.gov website where they can find additional information and resources. An interactive element includes playing cards where you select an emergency to respond to with either the skills card you have in your hand or you can pick from the deck.
