Bat Walk at Hampton Park

 Submitted by Ross Gericke

We had 19 inquisitive patrons join Master Naturalists Larry and Laurie Alvord on Monday night, April 17, to learn about Georgia bats. After an informative lecture, patrons walked around the building with a bat call detector to see what species of bats had emerged from hibernation to hunt for food. The bat detector helped identify multiple Hoary bats hunting in the area despite the cold temperatures and wind.

Larry and Laurie will return to Hampton Park for future Bat Walk programs to continue gathering data about bat activity all year round. We're glad to serve as important data gathering site to better understand bat species and activity in Forsyth County.
