Here is a sampling of recaps from May 5 through May 11, 2023: 

Free Comic Book Day at HP

“Free Comic Book Day was a great success! I had a table of free comics graciously donated by Kapow Comics and Games by the front desk, a graphic novel character scavenger hunt, button making, a Juvenile graphic novel display, and various comic book and graphic novel crafts laid out. LeAnne, Jennifer and I were busy all day making buttons, giving prizes for the scavenger hunt, and talking comics with patrons! We also had a thank you sign for Kapow, which was filled with messages long before the day was over.” – Kayla Bolton 

Novel Diversions at PR: Circe by Madeline Miller

“By the end of the meeting we all decided that the theme of this book was about the importance of living intentionally -- deciding what you want and then making it happen. Everyone said they would recommend this book to their friends. One of our regular patrons arrived a few minutes late to the meeting. She looked upset and began crying when members asked her if she was ok. It was touching to see our group rally around her and encourage her. She told the group she was so glad she came, and that she had nearly stayed home but wanted to be around "her people." – Aubrey Smith

Becoming a Global Citizen: Discussions on International Issues at SF

“One patron that spoke with me and Dr. Harris after the program told us ‘I absolutely love these programs. These topics are so important for us to talk about. Programs like this and Great Decisions should be a recurring thing. In fact, where are all of the Great Decision people? They should be here!’ He went on to thank us for hosting this program and this series, and he and Dr. Harris spent a good 5-10 extra minutes talking in the lobby as I dismantled the room.” – Jessica Doss

Halcyon Kids Day Storytime with Outreach

“Jeanine and I had a nice, sunny day and a big crowd of happy children! Jeanine's theme for today's storytime was birds, frogs, and hopping - all the kiddos loved all the opportunities they had for hopping! Storytime began with a lovely Kevin Henkes book about birds, then we did a freeze dance. The second story tied in really well with Mother's Day coming up (Leap Back Home to Me), and Jeanine had everyone hug their own mom when froggy hugged his in the story - so sweet! We had another song and fingerplay, and then finished up with the super silly puppet show Farley Farts. (We definitely heard some giggles from behind the puppet theater!) Afterwards, parents stopped by to check out our promotional table, asked questions about Summer Reading, and thanked us for taking part in Kids Day today.” – Karina Segura

Adult Special Needs Craft & Story Hour at CU

“Patrons made multiple puzzles using their fine motor skills. Some walked around and complemented each others' works. One patron was a huge helper for us: she watched me cut each puzzle and then she would deliver it to her peers. One patron is out sick and has been sick for a couple of months now, and one patron decided he would make a puzzle for him - it was such a kind gesture!” – Brianna Schantz
