FCPL was featured by GPLS!

Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) selected FCPL out of 61 public library systems in Georgia as their featured library in an article about the benefits of summer reading programs. 

"Forsyth County Public Library's Summer Reading Program is a prime example of Georgia libraries' impact on communities, especially during the summer," said GPLS Communications Coordinator Fabian Munive in an email to me yesterday.  

This article is the end result of a summer-long collaboration between GPLS and FCPL to create a story about a child's journey through a summer reading program. Choosing one child for this project was not an easy task, but there was one family in particular who came to mind immediately. Perhaps you recognize them? 

I've known Sandy and her children Siddharth (6-years-old) and Meera (4-years-old) for a number of years because they come to so many programs at multiple locations (even offsite). 

I've gotten to know them even better in my role as Communications Manager thanks to Sandy's frequent social media posts which regularly mention FCPL. 

Sandy jumped at the chance to be interviewed and agreed to send me photos throughout the summer with updates about their SRF experience. The GPLS article included a few quotes by Sandy (as well as quotes by Kim Ottesen and Kayla Bolton!), but it left out one of my favorites: 

"[FCPL] staff are always welcoming and kind, and encourage the kids to read more. Today, both my children love reading and spend hours reading, and I can say definitively that the love for books was instilled in them through the library."

This.

Read it again. 

Drink it in and revel in it. 

You did that. YOU. 

FCPL super fans like this family are the cumulative result of every single staff member who has interacted with them, selected and processed the books they love, shelved the books they return, cleaned and maintained the branches they visit, planned and facilitated the programs they attend, and managed all the technology that makes it all possible. 

Just in case you needed a reminder that you make a difference. You do. And people notice.
