Winter Reading Fun: December 19–January 21

Registration for Winter Reading Fun begins on December 19. The challenge will run from Tuesday, December 19–January 21. We will use Beanstack, so please encourage patrons to create an account if they don’t have one yet. 

We are excited to introduce Winter Reading Fun trading cards as incentives for our Kids’ Winter Reading Fun Challenge. Our Youth Services staff had a great time creating a series of nine Puppets of FCPL trading cards featuring some of our favorite puppet show stars. Special thanks to Kaity Bowers for creating a fun design for this project.

How It Works

Participating is easy. Patrons read books and earn points. A minute read equals one point. Our younger patrons can log books for 20 points each (usually babies and preschoolers). To complete Winter Reading Fun a patron will need to earn 400 points. 

Two Winter Reading Fun Programs

Kids’ Winter Reading Fun – children from babies to 5th grade

• Registration incentive: Branch mascot trading card and 9-card trading card keeper page
• Repeatable activities: Kids can earn 10 points by completing a repeatable activity. There are three:

• Act of Kindness

• Try Something New

• Visit the Library

• Eight 50-point incentive prizes: Choice of trading cards

• Completion at 400 points and entered in grand prize drawing

Teen & Adult Winter Reading Fun – patrons from 6th grade to adult

• Three 100-point incentive prizes: Choice of vinyl stickers

• 400-point prize: Coupon for one book from the Friends & Advocates Bookstore 

• Completion at 400 points and entered in grand prize drawing

Grand Prize Drawing – No Tickets!

Unlike summer, there are no grand prize tickets this winter. Patrons who complete the challenge are automatically entered in the drawing for their age group and library branch. This year we have a set of grand prizes for each age group at each branch library, including the Bookmobile:

• Preschool: Melissa & Doug Safari puppets

• Elementary: Lego City Arctic Ice Glider set

• Teen: Iron Flack Sports Water Bottle

• Adult: $25 Amazon gift card

Grand prizes will be drawn on Monday, January 22, 2024.
