Do you have patrons in nonprofit organizations who are looking for grants? Have you had anyone asking for Candid or Foundation Directory Online or even GuideStar? Send them to the Cumming Library! Candid is the result of a merger between Foundation Center and GuideStar and Foundation Directory Online has rebranded to Candid’s Foundation Directory.
Accessible only at the Cumming Library, Candid’s Foundation Directory has profiles for over 314,000 grant makers and over 2 million recipients. The database is updated daily and new grants and requests for proposals (RFPs) are added weekly. Not all funders can be found online through a regular web search and RFPs can be especially hard to locate.
Foundation Directory allows users to do a general search using natural language, but also has a powerful advanced search option that provides a number of filters that can help users pinpoint the data they need. Search results are broken down into Grantmakers, Grants, Recipients, and 990 Tax Forms. Users are able to download or email lists and detailed profiles so they can review them later.
While users can’t see actual copies of grant proposals, Foundation Directory is incredibly useful for prospecting and researching grants and grant makers. Candid offers free training on their product, as well as training on topics like introduction to proposal writing. Of course, the library also has a number of books on grant writing.
This is an incredible resource for our patrons. We will be happy to get them started!
