The Cumming Library Rodeo (8/23)
13 Children, 8 Adults
The Library Rodeo was a lot of fun today! The program began with a very brief presentation about rodeos and Westward Expansion, as well as videos of barrel racing and a cowboy using a lasso. The kids then enjoyed different stations including: Herding Cattle, Barrel Racing, Panning for Gold, Design Your Own Cowboy Boot, and Make Your Own Horse.- hosted by Signe Madson
Great Pollinator Census at Hampton Park Library (8/23)
23 Children, 28 Adults
The rain did not stop the extension office from holding an exciting and engaging program about pollinators! They could not be outside, but that did not stop our enthusiastic pollinator experts from educating our interested patrons. They had items for adults and kids alike, and even gave away little bee finger puppets! We even had one special visitor who dressed up as a lovely butterfly—Ross' mom! Everyone enjoyed speaking with our guests and hopefully learned something new. - hosted by Diana Wolski
Will Leitch Author Talk (8/26)
23 Adults
Author Will Leitch discussed his new book, upcoming film, writing career, and background in journalism. Mr. Leitch is an entertaining speaker who really connected with the audience. He took a tour of the library, talked to patrons, and even bought some books at our Friends Bookstore. Read It Again Books sold books at the event for attendees to buy and have signed. Patrons enjoyed talking to the author and taking pictures after the program. Will encouraged listeners to get involved with creating, whether it is art, writing, building, or forming a group. I let patrons know about our upcoming writing programs and author visits, many are looking forward to William Kent Krueger's programs in October. - hosted by Alicia Cavitt
Black Holes at Denmark Library (8/24)
10 Adults, 2 Children
This lecture by Dr. Jay Dunn was fascinating, and the patrons were really engaged. Some questions that came up were: Do black holes move? Do they have anything to do with black matter? Are we in one? He went through some distance and size comparisons to try and put the universe into perspective, and recommended patrons to check out a website called the H Twins Scale of the Universe. He then got into the heart of the presentation: the gravitational forces that are black holes and their impact on the space around them. Dr. Dunn will likely be returning in December to give another presentation, and he also presents annually at the Atlanta Science Festival in March. - hosted by Elise Rodriguez
