We have discovered an issue with the Bookmobile that will require time off the road to repair. The fuel sensor in the chassis is not reading the fuel level correctly and needs to be serviced at the Freightliner dealership. On January 27, Outreach staff will deliver the Bookmobile to Forsyth County Fleet Maintenance, who will then take it to Freightliner to investigate the issue. This is covered by our warranty with Summit Body Works and we are working with them to ensure the repairs are handled appropriately.
We will not be able to determine the length of time the repair will take until it is assessed by Freightliner. In speaking with Fleet Maintenance, COVID has had a major effect on the availability of automotive supplies, and it could be several weeks before the parts needed become available. This means that there will be a potentially extended amount of time that the Bookmobile will not be on the road and we plan for the Bookmobile to be out of service for the month of February. This is not an ideal situation but we feel it is better to have the Bookmobile off the road in the winter when we are less busy.
Utilizing the library van and Pop-Up Library equipment,
Outreach staff will offer modified services to some locations where we have
returning patrons in order to continue to build trust and demonstrate
consistency.
