Over the last year, we have received patron requests and comments for the Dean Koontz book Eyes of Darkness. Some of the comments have touched upon the length of the holds queue for this title.
Eyes of Darkness was originally published in 1989 and was republished in 1998. The book has gained a new life due to comparisons to the COVID outbreak. Self-published books have been written in the last year about the book.
The book is out of print and not available for the Library to purchase. Vendors such as Amazon may have copies for sale, but these are often used or are not licensed copies. Purchasing an eBook or eAudiobook copy is not an option either. OverDrive does not sell this title in either format at this time.
The Library currently owns one print copy of Eyes of Darkness and one eBook copy (purchased when OverDrive was selling this title). We also have a translation of this title in Korean in our Adult Korean collection at Sharon Forks. Materials staff continue to check periodically to see if more copies are made available for sale in print or electronic format. Please understand that even with increased demand, the author and/or publisher may still not wish to reissue the title.
Please also be aware of the fact that Dean Koontz now publishes under an Amazon publishing imprint. His most recent title is unavailable as an eBook or eAudiobook through OverDrive. This is becoming a common practice with titles published through Amazon publishing.
I assume that many libraries are seeing the same interest and that the title is not available via ILL?
ReplyDeleteCorrect. As per our ILL policy, we are unable to request anything we already own through ILL. Most systems have their copies checked out, and many systems no longer own a copy. The geographically closest non-Georgia library system to have a copy was in Kentucky. I believe that many of the older copies held by PINES libraries are in pretty bad shape due to age.
