Reading Globally is Back!

submitted by Cleo Joyce

All staff are invited to join the next meeting of Reading Globally to discuss Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley. This book club will be held on Tuesday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. Please register here and you'll receive the Google Meet link prior to the meeting.

Firekeeper's Daughter is a TH title available in print, eBook, eAudio, and CDB. It is a fast paced thriller that follows Daunis Fontaine, who is part Ojibwe, as she is recruited to be a confidential informant by the FBI to help combat a growing meth problem in her community. It is full of amazing details and descriptions of Ojibwe culture, customs, and language. If you're an audiobook fan, I highly recommend the audio so you can fully experience the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe language) used throughout the book.

Firekeeper's Daughter was recently optioned by Netflix as a limited series and will be produced by Higher Ground Productions, the Obama's production company. It was selected as the spring 2021 title by Reese Witherspoon's book club. It also comes highly recommended by Debbie Reese of American Indians in Children's Literature.
