Fun in the Sun with the Bookmobile

This past glorious Saturday, Lorraine, Joanie, and Loanie hit the road to meet some new patrons and visit with some regulars. The day began with our first regular visit to Chattahoochee Elementary School. We are so excited about this new stop, and it looks like it is going to be popular.

From Lorraine and Joanie:

A father and his son showed up at Chattahoochee early and waited in their car for the other family members to arrive. After checking out their items, the children had fun playing with the Tinker Toys and making Valentine cards.  An eager husband and wife duo with their preschool-aged daughter came in search of Spanish materials and checked out so many Spanish books that we were concerned about having enough for our last two stops that day. It was as if they couldn’t believe their good fortune and we were happy to oblige.  A family of seven spent a significant amount of time enjoying the bookmobile and all the activities we had to offer. Each of the five children checked out books using their school ID numbers, and their parents got a library card to share. A regular patron from a discontinued stop came by to browse with one of her older children. She shared that she prefers choosing from the bookmobile’s smaller collection, and we are hopeful that this stop will continue to serve her family.

St. Douglas Villas was a whirlwind of activity between the scavenger hunt, Valentine craft, and the books. One young patron informed us we needed to be there longer so she can have time to choose books AND do the activities! This is always a fun stop and the kids really enjoy spending time “shopping” for their next read. A bookmobile stop at St. Douglas wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Lumpy the dog, who hopped on board as if he owned the place.

Morningside apartments is always a beautiful example of families coming together to enjoy each other’s company. While the children chose books, played with the Tinker Toys, and made cards, the parents sat on the tailgate of a resident’s pickup truck and enjoyed visiting with one another and soaking up some sun.
