Gold, bronze, civic, help, eclair, thinker—what do these words have in common?
They have all been used as GALILEO passwords according to a search through my email (which I clearly need to clean out).
Get ready to say goodbye to the shared GALILEO password system.
Early next week we will be migrating our login system for GALILEO and many other eResources to a service called OpenAthens.
The only change for end users will be the look of the authentication windows.
Most of our local eResource login windows will change from this:

Pretty nice, right?
There are several benefits to the OpenAthens system:
It’s more secure.
Single-Sign-On means you can move from resource to resource without re-entering your credentials.
You only have to log in once every 8 hours, unless you switch browsers, clear out your cookies, or change computers.
You will be logged in to the resource site as an individual, and can take advantage of personalization features such as saving search results or favorite settings.
There is no action required on your part, we just wanted to let you know this change is coming.
