Programming Picks: Week of July 22, 2024 🌞

Summer is getting shorter, but there is still plenty to do at the library! Make sure our patrons know about these great programs to highlight for the week of July 22, 2024 – including a FREE writing camp!

Writing Camp for Tweens - For ages 8–12

When: Tuesday, July 23–Thursday, July 25 at 1:00–2:30 p.m.

Where: Cumming Library 

What: Join us for three days of writing camp at the Cumming Library. We'll share writing instruction, tips, and techniques through discussion, activities, and practice. Topics will include setting, character development, editing, sensory language, poetry, fractured fairy tales, storyboarding, and dialogue using a combination of presentation, discussion, prompts and games.

Basics of Bass Fishing for Teens and Tweens

When: Tuesday, July 23 at 6:00–7:00 p.m.

Where: Hampton Park Library 

What: Are you wanting to up your fishing game this summer, or even try out a new sport? Teens and tweens are invited to learn the basics of bass fishing with local angling instructor Ken Sturdivant!

Fencing: The Art of Swordplay

When: Tuesday, July 23 at 7:00–8:00 p.m.

Where: Sharon Forks Library

What: Learn the history of fencing followed by a hands-on demonstration with coaches from Dunwoody Fencing Club. For adults and high school students.

Science for Everyone! - with Michael Green the Science Machine

When: Thursday, July 25 at 10:00–10:45 a.m. & 11:00–11:45 a.m.

Where: Hampton Park Library 

What: Come see amazing science experiments and learn facts sure to impress your friends. For kids in grades K-5. Event passes will be handed out 30 minutes prior to the show.

The 1828 Dahlonega Gold Rush

When: Thursday, July 25 at 7:00–8:00 p.m.

Where: Post Road Library 

What: Dathan Harbert of Consolidated Gold Mines will present the history of the 1828 Dahlonega Gold Rush, the key points of interest, and how it led to the creation of Consolidated Gold Mine. For adults and high school students.

Adventures on the Trail

When: Sunday, July 28 at 2:00–3:00 p.m.

Where: Sharon Forks Library 

What: Robert "Bo" Bobinski will present on his personal adventures while hiking and working the Appalachian Trail, including the unusual things he has found on the trail in his capacity as Leave No Trace and Outdoor Ethics State Advocate. For adults.
