Finally a Puppet Wall! CU Boy Scout Project

CU's youth staff have coveted the puppet walls at other branches since Ann Decherd's husband built the first one at PR and SF benefitted through an Eagle Scout project to get theirs. We have been looking for a potential Eagle Scout to ask us if we needed a project. Last spring Austin Teixeira approached us and offered help. Austin and his family have been long time patrons here at CU.  

Cumming has always been hindered by the limitations of our space and our dozens and dozens of puppets were just one way this showed. Austin met with Scot Wells and Denise Leeson to show his ideas and get feedback on exactly what we would like. We decided to rework the youth closet, by removing shelving and installing a smaller puppet wall and space for open bins. It was decided summer was too busy to schedule the installation and we needed to have the project finished before school started. Austin and his team built the wall at home and asked Scot to oversee the installation on July 30! 

Julie Boyd had our amazing volunteens empty the shelving and bring everything into the meeting room to be sorted, organized and tossed if necessary. Kaity Bowers worked with our new volunteer Josie on this difficult task. Scot and Steve reworked the existing shelving to help us reorganize one half of the space. We wish we had more space—but are so excited with the results and know that the puppets will live longer and staff will use up less time hunting for them. We are grateful that Austin chose us as his Eagle Scout project.
