Cataloging is an important part of getting an item into the hands, or digital hands, of a patron. Cataloging allows for materials within the collection to be stored and searched for in a way that minimizes confusion.
During Fiscal Year 2020, Cataloging staff within the Materials Department cataloged 40,518 physical and electronic items. These included purchased items as well as donations. Cataloging staff also deleted over 29,993 items from the collection over the same period. Deletion involves removing the items digitally from POLARIS. Deletion also involves removing our ownership indicators of a particular title from OCLC when our last copy of a work is removed from Forsyth County Public Library. Physical items that are deleted are also boxed by Materials staff for the Friends and Advocates, as well as for Better World Books.
