Processing Update

Just a brief word about the amazing job processing staff in the Materials Department have been doing:

  • During the period July 2019 through February 2020, staff and volunteers processed on average 3,304 items per month
  • Before the closure in March, staff processed 4,033 items
  • The month of May saw 5,255 items processed, and June saw 9,009 items; this time period also saw staff without the help of our great volunteers who help out with processing items; Materials staff who work with ILL also helped with this
Processing includes working with books, DVDs, music CDs, and physical audiobooks.  Processing includes applying barcodes, putting on Mylar book covers, stamping the received date, affixing and encoding RFID tags, and adding any special labels as needed.  All part of the river of Materials from the moment of purchase to placing the book in a patron's hands.

Preetha Thalamuthu is our Materials Processor.  She is assisted by Meredith Causey, Materials Services Supervisor.Tanya Rodabaugh, our Interlibrary Loan Specialist, also assisted with processing during the end of fiscal year rush.  We also want to thank Hampton Park staff members Virginia Kostulakos and Cathy Fenton for helping us with some processing near the end of fiscal year as well.
