eResources Update

Submitted by Jeff Fisher

During the course of each fiscal year, all purchased electronic databases are monitored each month for their respective usage statistics.  This information provides a snapshot as to the number of users per month.  The statistics also provide a cost per use for each database by comparing usage to the annual cost for each individual database.

All subscribed databases are also evaluated for patron and staff feedback, ease of use, and currency.  The Library's Collection Development Policy is also considered prior to subscribing to an electronic database.

After careful evaluation over the course of fiscal year 2022, as well as the previous fiscal year, the decision has been made to not renew the following electronic databases for fiscal year 2023:

  • Culturegrams
  • MyHeritage
  • Science Online (as mentioned in a previous blog post, we will receive a similar database through GALILEO in FY2023)
  • TeenBookCloud
  • the World Almanac for Kids Middle School (The Library will keep the companion database - World Almanac for Kids Elementary)

The discontinuation of these electronic subscriptions will allow us to divert funds to other electronic resources, including eBook and eAudiobooks through LIBBY, as well as Tutor.com.

Database usage information is available on Drive - Materials - Statistics - Purchased Databases Statistics FY2020 -
