Introducing LOTE4Kids

Submitted by Jeff Fisher

Introducing . . .  LOTE4Kids!

We are excited to announce a new electronic resource for patrons, available on July 3. LOTE4Kids is an electronic database featuring digital eBooks in over 60 languages. All 2,250+ books are available in English, and many are available in multiple languages, including Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. The titles feature animation, spoken word, and subtitles.  Bilingual formats for many titles are available.

The database is designed to allow children, or patrons of all ages, to enjoy stories in multiple languages.  LOTE4Kids is also a language learning tool. LOTE4Kids has an activities section, featuring games and coloring pages.

LOTE4Kids will allow patrons to access materials in languages for which we have been receiving requests over the last few years, including American Sign Language, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Ukrainian, among others. Approximately 80 to 100 books are added each month. There are no hold times or wait periods to use the titles. New languages are also added on a regular basis.

And now for the answers to what may become the most frequently asked questions about LOTE4Kids:

LOTE rhymes with 'boat'

LOTE stands for Languages Other Than English (although please remember all titles are available in English)

  3. That's awesome!! I just had a Russian speaking patron mention her daughter likes to read in Russian and English, and I showed her the website and she was very excited.
