On the Road with Outreach: Little Free Libraries

Submitted by Lorraine Lane

I was recently scrolling through Facebook and came across a post from the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation about Little Free Libraries (LFL) and had an epiphany! What if the Outreach team visited the LFL to place summer reading information inside, so that's what we did.

We had a blast visiting the parks, checking on the LFL and talking with park visitors about summer reading. Little Free Library bridges the gap to literary access. Some of the LFL were a little short on books, so if you find yourself cleaning out your personal bookshelves stop by the parks to share. Little Free Libraries are located at the following parks:

  • Lanierland Park
  • Coal Mountain Dog Park
  • Sawnee Mountain Preserve
  • Sawnee Mountain Park
  • Matt Community
  • Fowler Park
  • Joint Venture Park
  • Central Park
  • Caney Creek Preserve
  • Haw Creek Park
  • Ducktown Community Park

  1. I love Little Free Libraries! Anyone can set one up and you can search for registered LFLs (they have the plaque with an official registration number) at https://littlefreelibrary.org/map/. Every one is unique, which makes it fun. This is a great way to spread the word about summer reading!
