Brand & Style Guide Quick Tip: Text Alignment

Submitted by Leslie Marinelli

It's time for another quick tip from the FCPL Brand & Style Guide!

Today's tip is all about improving the effectiveness, readability, and design of your communications with text alignment.
  • Left-aligned text is typically preferable to center-aligned text for readability.

  • Center-aligned text is acceptable in short phrases or for titles and headings, but should be avoided when using long sentences or paragraphs.

  • Break larger paragraphs into smaller chunks for maximum readability.

  • Be mindful of where text wraps so lines of text are balanced. (TIP: insert a “soft return” using Shift+Enter to manually control word wrapping within the same paragraph.)

The FCPL Brand & Style Guide was updated today to add the above graphic and clarify a few points about text formatting and alignment

    1. Yay! It's one of my favorite shortcuts, Kaity. Great for keeping text formatted as the same paragraph, but giving you more control over things like bullets, numbered lists, and spacing without creating a new paragraph.
