Winter Reading was simplified, offered many prizes, and was the most popular school year challenge we have ever run. Registration for all ages combined was up 72%. That's huge!
Winter Reading by the numbers:
- Registered patrons: 1810 (1141 kids, 669 teens & adults)
- Patrons who completed the challenge: 961 (up 136% from 2023)
- Minutes read: 690,659 (up 382% from 2023)
- Books read: 14,071 (up 100% from 2023)
- Trading cards claimed: 4772 to date
- Elementary with highest participation: Sawnee
- Middle Schools with highest participation: It's a tie! Piney Grove and Riverwatch
- High School with highest participation: South Forsyth
The Puppets of FCPL trading cards were a popular incentive prize this year for the PreK–Grade 5 challenge. 69% of all cards that have been earned have been claimed at the branches so far. Compare this with the 57% redemption rate last year and we can see the success we have had this winter.
Vinyl stickers and Friends Bookstore coupons were also in high demand—much higher than anticipated. So far we have given out nearly 600 stickers and 172 Friends Bookstore coupons. Adults especially enjoyed having incentive prizes and some lingered over the fun sticker choices offered.

Several adults and teens commented to me about how much they loved the vinyl stickers! They were very cute and high quality.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!! Kids at the branches have definitely been excited about the cards. And, grown-ups LOVE having the bookstore coupons, several parents signed up alongside kids because of that.
ReplyDeleteThe trading cards have been a huge hit! I've been encouraging parents to provide feedback if they would like to see them return in the future. I know some staff who would love having bitmoji style librarian cards! ;)
