Check out these highlights from some of the unique offerings that patrons enjoyed systemwide between September 26–October 2.
Magician Arthur Atsma at Cumming Library
“We had a good turnout despite the rainy weather. Arthur presented magic tricks for a full hour to a very engaged audience. His tricks were great, and he used a few volunteers to assist him. Many families thanked me for the program. Several specifically thanked me for staying open despite the approaching hurricane.” –hosted by Julie Boyd

Bookmobile Visit to Holly Park Mobile Home Community
“Based on our initial visit, we decided to bring some big games and the weather proved great for that, if not a bit hot. We had more than twice the visitors than at last month's visit and the parents and kids seemed glad that we were there. One young man even came decked out in his Fortnite Halloween costume, but he wasn't ready to show me the dance that went along with it quite yet. One mom had attended Conversational English at Cumming Library and ended up checking out a book for English learners along with her kids.” –contributed by Joanie Goforth

Gamer Escape Room at Cumming Library
“The Gamer Escape room idea was taken from our fabulous TAB because the escape room was so popular last December. The escape room started with Kirby, then Minecraft, Mario Brothers, and ended with Pokemon. There were lots of puzzles, codes, and games. It seemed like everyone had a great time. The kids and parents were super sweet and expressed gratitude for all of the library programming.” –hosted by Sariah Homan
2024 MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival at Sharon Forks Library
“The crowd seemed to enjoy the films that were presented. Out of the 32 patrons who attended the first screening, 27 turned in a voting card. Most of the time, the patrons were very engaged in the film. The second one shown, I Am Not A Robot, got the most reaction, with several of the patrons laughing aloud. Everyone enjoyed the short films and I saw that a few brought snacks and some blankets to settle in. One young couple said they were at the library studying and heard the announcement and thought it would be a fun brain break.” -hosted by Jessica Giles and Jessica Dillard
Let’s Make Talavera Tiles at Post Road Library
“At this drop-in craft program, patrons learned about the history of Talavera and how it is made today. Patrons also got to look at lots of different examples of Talavera designs while making mini magnetic tiles of their own to take home! One patron that attended said she loved Talavera style ceramics and was very happy that we planned this program.” –hosted by Sarah Sander
Family Bat Walk at Hampton Park Library
“We had a fantastic turnout for our Family Bat Walk! Laurie and Larry Alvord captivated young patrons and their families with an engaging presentation on bats. We learned fascinating facts (like the fact that there are over 1,400 species of bats) and discussed their critical role in the ecosystem. The Alvords also taught us how to be more mindful of bats in the wild and how to stay safe when we see a bat (no touching!). Their photos of various bat species, especially the striking black and orange painted bat from Southeast Asia, were a hit with the crowd. Afterward, we explored bat call detection technology and bat box habitats before transitioning to our craft activity. Kids enjoyed assembling their own flying bats to take outside during our walk. The evening concluded with a bat walk, where families listened for bats with the Alvords providing insights on what we were seeing on the radars. Many families expressed their enjoyment with this program overall and seemed excited about the unique opportunity to participate in a bat walk designed just for them, separate from the adult program.” –hosted by Chase Truran
