Costume Swap at Post Road

It was a dark and stormy night and an Information Specialist was thinking of programs, when suddenly it hit her—a Halloween Costume Swap! So maybe it did not go down exactly like that... Nevertheless, the Halloween Costume Swap was born! The biggest challenge was coming up with the guidelines for costumes. There were many factors to consider, but, after brainstorming with my supervisor, rules were set and signs were put up. We knew that for this to be a success we would need to involve all of the branches. Thanks to everyone's hard work and collaboration, donations started pouring in. We got to work sorting and organizing in anticipation of the big day. We might have had a little fun along the way....

The day of the swap finally arrived. We had many costumes laid out on five tables. Two for juvenile and one each for teens, babies and adults. 

When we opened, patrons excitedly came in to pick their costumes. Patrons tried on costumes over their clothes to find one that fit. One snag was that some patrons assumed that if they did not donate, then they did not get to pick out a costume. Next year, we will clarify that donating is not required to pick out a costume. Some patrons missed the deadline to donate this year, but are excited to donate for next year. Nearly everyone who came told us how happy they are to see the library organize this and hope to see it continue. At the end of the event, many costumes had been taken and we are saving the leftovers for next year!
