Week 7 - Interview Process Tips
The entire HR team presented this session.
Elise Herbst started us off by explaining the phone interview process and tips for being successful with it. Cristie Edmondson followed up with the skills test and provided pointers on how to prepare for it, including "do not wear your bedroom slippers!" to your appointment.
Nikki Watkins discussed what to expect in the panel interview. She included suggestions on what to be prepared for and that they had access to helpful resources. As internal candidates, current CSAs have the benefit of seeing what goes on at the branches and understanding how the branch works each day. One thing to remember is that each part of the process is considered in the final selection.
Everyone, including a few mentors who were on the session, reminded the group to be prepared and do your homework ahead of time. There's no need to be surprised and the more you know about the position the better off you will be.
Week 8 - Graduation & Wrapping Up
The CSAs along with their respective supervisors, mentors, presenters, and more, all gathered for the final session. Nikki led the group through a recap of each session for the benefit of all.
Jennifer Forbes had made several great comments during her session on customer service, such as, "Assumptions are not always your friend," and "Your walking speed is your body language." While Alicia suggested, "Having a book in hand or in front of you for a conversation starter" when doing reader's advisory.
Each CSA was presented with a certificate of completion for participating in the program.
This was such a positive experience and gives CSAs a great picture of what it's like in other roles at FCPL. I really enjoyed being involved with it. Good luck to our CSAs interested in YS and IS positions at FCPL.
ReplyDeleteI, too, really enjoyed being a part of this program and look forward to seeing any interested CSAs move into IS/YS positions. I feel like this group was really invested in learning more about our jobs. I'd also love feedback later, after some have been in IS/YS positions for a while, as to how well this mentoring program actually prepared them for the job.
