Student Library Cards for 2025-2026

Submitted by Leslie Marinelli

FCPL has a special partnership with Forsyth County Schools (FCS), Pinecrest Academy (PCA), and Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA) which gives parents/guardians the option of allowing their student to use their unique school ID number as a Forsyth County Public Library card number.

Read on for an important update about this program...

Welcome emails are going out TODAY to all the FCS parents/guardians who opted in to this program for the 2025–2026 school year.

Although participating families opt into this partnership in July/August when they fill out school registration forms, we can't send out the emails until FCS shares the data with us. Historically speaking, last year the emails went out on 11/26, and in 2023 the emails went out on 11/17, so this is typically the time of year we receive this data from FCS.

The email we send out to the new list each year gives an overview of the program, provides information on how to use the student library card accounts, and encourages people to change their default PIN for security reasons.

Uploading new school data into Polaris overwrites existing student library card data, including any PINs that may have been changed since the last data upload. Therefore, you may see an uptick over the next few weeks in reports from students who participated last year that their PIN is no longer working.

There is a helpful Google Doc with all the pertinent information you need to know about this program, including the default PIN algorithm for all three schools and the Student Library Card number format for each specific school. Please refer to the "Student Library Cards - General Info for FCPL Staff" document in the Public Services All > Student Library Cards folder for all the necessary details.

If you have any questions about the program after reading the Google Doc, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or to Holly Barfield.
