Q & A Tuesday, October 27, 2020

 Submitted by Tricia Syler

Many apologies for the short notice of this meeting.  Thursday was being considered for the Q & A but when we realized the arrival of the Bookmobile was on that day, we knew it was not good timing for some staff.

 Bookmobile

Can you feel the anticipation?  The big blue bookmobile is set to be delivered to Forsyth County Fleet maintenance, in all her shining glory, on Thursday at 9:00 a.m.  She will not receive her official name until she has reached FCPL and staff has the opportunity to check her out!  On Thursday, Facilities and Outreach staff will receive special training on all the bells and whistles and specific protocols for running and parking our new addition.

Although the bookmobile will touch down in Cumming on Thursday, she won’t actually hit the road until November.  The Outreach team is working on a video that we will share with the public documenting her arrival and customization.  Update….the Bookmobile was successfully delivered to HQ on Thursday.

On Saturday, November 21st the bookmobile will make her way to each branch so staff and patrons can have a look for themselves.  Times at each branch are listed below:

HP  10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

SF   12:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.

PR     2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

CU    4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

As always, health and safety are being seriously considered in the operations of the bookmobile.  Outreach staff will have their very own electrostatic handheld sprayer to make sanitation between stops quick and easy.  Masks will continue to be required and only two people will be allowed inside at a time.  The bookmobile is equipped with shelving that can be brought outside for collection browsing and staff are able to check out items using hand held devices as well.

We are all so excited for the long awaited arrival of the bookmobile and all the outreach opportunities her arrival represents!

 COVID-19 Coordinator

A great big THANK YOU to Sarah for her excellence in leadership as COVID-19 Coordinator.  Sarah will be stepping down from this role to return her focus fully back to Outreach!  She has done such an amazing job helping us all navigate the ever changing information and recommendations.  She also had a significant role in creating a plan for the reopening of the library.  Thank you, Sarah, for all of your hard work!

If you have future COVID related questions, please reach out to your Supervisor or Branch Manager.  Steve, Anna, and Nikki will remain on the COVID-19 committee and you can also bring questions to them as well.

If you experience any COVID-like symptoms, please contact Human Resources.  Since each situation is different, Human Resources will work with you to clarify a plan for your absence and return to work.

Mask Policy

We do acknowledge that there are still some patrons that, although aware of our mask policy, choose to not wear a mask or remove their mask once seated.  The library Board felt that moving to require masks was the right step to take but also cautioned staff to avoid unnecessary confrontation and remember that some people may need special accommodations.  We understand that patrons removing their masks can be frustrating.  Overall compliance of the mask requirement has significantly increased at many branches but we will most likely never reach 100% compliance.  We do intend to maintain our current operations levels through 2020 (and possibly beyond).

COVID Tab

Just a reminder that there is now a COVID tab on SharePoint.  This tab is located just to the right of the Home tab.  Up-to-date COVID related resources will be housed under this tab for easy access.  Check it out!

Longevity

Longevity pay is a benefit to classified employees who have been employed with FCPL in a classified position for five or more years.  As of now, there are no intended changes to longevity pay eligibility.  Those who are eligible can expect to receive their Longevity Pay in a separate payment on November 13.  Please reach out to Human Resources if you have additional questions about Longevity pay or any other benefits.

Recruitment

Human Resources is currently recruiting for the following two positions:

·         Entry Level Web Developer/Web Applications Technician (FT)

·         Maintenance/Facilities Technician (PT – 25 hrs.)

If you know anyone who would be interested in one of these positions, please encourage them to apply!  We are also very happy to announce that we are fully staffed in the Public Services department and have our fingers crossed that it stays that way (for a good long while at least)!
